It’s been a minute since General Hospital has off’d someone on the show, and I was getting a little worried for Valentin after he was caught breaking and entering twice, and accidentally poisoning Carly. These are not signs of the, ‘always 20 steps ahead Valentin’ that we have come to know. Unless that is exactly what we are seeing.
Perhaps showing up in Port Charles was about the hunted becoming the hunter. Any successful hunt would require knowing your target and having the right tools. What if that tool was Jason? If you are looking to get Jason’s attention, you start with the person he gave up two years of his life for, platonically of course, and the person who managed to sneak into Pikeman’s organization under Brennan’s nose.
That’s the other issue with this whole Pikeman situation, the confusing gift that keeps on giving. Valentin claims that Brenann is the head of the WSB, and Charlotte was used as leverage to get him to cooperate. Using Charlotte as leverage is effective, it’s how Victor got Valentin to help him with his plan to reduce the planet's population.
We know that Pikeman is some secret off the books organization that is part of the WSB, an association the WSB would like to keep under wraps. Right now, Valentin is wanted by law enforcement for his “involvement” with Pikeman. Let’s say this is true and Brennan is not only the head of the WSB but was running Pikeman as well, the only way to survive the WSB is to disappear completely or restore your name and become absorbed by them once again. Since Valentin opted to reappear in Port Charles, he is clearly aiming for option number two. And don’t we love door number two! Any door that keeps Valentin alive and well offscreen is fine by me. From the brief appearances here and there, and his recent arrest, it’s clear we won’t be getting Valentin back full time any time soon, but that’s okay as long as it means Valentin lives to fight another day. While it may not seem like it, Valentin may just be setting the wheels in motion to get his life back.
At the time of the Pikeman storyline, Valentin was an intermediary setting up a deal with Sonny. If we run with the theory that Valentin is the innocent party he claims to be, perhaps Brennan thought, a local contact would be the right move to establish contact with Sonny. While there were many confusing things about the Pikeman storyline, most notable was the fact that Cyrus’ henchman Mason indicated that the head of Pikeman was a woman. This is one detail that required a good logistics cornering! Recently GH has been using details of the past to wrap up unfinished storylines; what if the woman Mason was referring to was Collette, Brennan’s number two.
When Valentin managed to intercept the prison van carrying Brennan, it was the first time we got substantial information about Pikeman. Especially about who was involved, Valentin’s plan for Sonny, and his frustration about Jason managing to infiltrate the organization. Looking back, you assume the guy not heading to jail was the one in control. But I guess if you can hang out in a local prison and then find your way back in a suit at the WSB, Brennan may have had more control than we thought. If Valentin was fully in charge, would Jason have infiltrated Pikeman so easily? Or was Valentin simply the local contact while Brennan was overseeing the entire operation?
If anyone in Port Charles has a good ‘bad guy’ radar, I would bet on Jason and Valentin any day. Could Brennan truly be a wolf in sheep's clothing? Jason is a professional, and he does not believe Sidwell planted the bomb in Sonny’s penthouse. According to Jason, bad guys have brand loyalty, and that bomb was a WSB device. What else belongs to the WSB…oh right, Pikeman! Brennan would never be thrown in Jason’s crosshairs if he wasn’t a real threat to the people he cares about. And if Valentin is who we think he is, always 20 steps ahead, could he have poisoned Carly on purpose to ensure Brennan would have a target on his back? Valentin was very aware of who he sold his house to, and likely planned for a quick exchange of information with Sonny, knowing what Sonny would do. No one has to wonder what Anna would do, so Valentin could safely predict Anna would learn of his presence after dropping a ton of bread crumbs with his B&Es. The look on Valentin’s face when he saw he had Jason right where he wanted him in the interrogation room, no better motivator than his platonic bestie. And all Valentin had to do was wait until he was ready, and press send on Charlotte’s phone to set his plan in motion.
Could Brennan be exactly who Valentin is implying he is? Would Brennan really use Charlotte as leverage, I guess we could ask Joss about that. Felicia explained to Carly that a WSB agent is way more dangerous than a local mob boss. A danger Valentin knows all too well. If Valentin has really chosen door number two, there is only one way to accomplish that, and that is to take Brennan out.
